Vice Chancellor and University CIO message on Cyber theft & Security Breaches
Dear College Presidents and Deans,
Cyber theft and security breaches are issues that have increasingly affected CUNY’s colleges, faculty, students, and staff. Effective security requires that everyone must take precautions to secure the integrity, accuracy and privacy of our personal and professional information.
I would like to share with you the attached “Cyber Dos and Don’ts,” just released by the New York State Office of Information Technology Services. The State CIO has requested that all state entities widely share this information with their employees and those that actively visit their facilities.
In support of this important effort, CIS has updated and improved its online Information Security course. This course was designed with the input of CIS and key college staff specifically for CUNY faculty, staff and students. This brief training program — taking no more than 30 minutes — reviews good cyber-security practices and ways to avoid disclosure or theft of personal and professional information.
Please share this material with your faculty, students, and staff and encourage all members of your campus community to take the basic information security awareness training course. Both are located at http://www.cuny.edu/about/administration/offices/CIS/security/training.html
