Proposing a WI course

Writing Intensive (WI) courses are special offerings that require advanced planning and development. Faculty members propose a WI by submitting an application, depending on the type of WI course.

Deadlines:

The deadline for Summer 2018 and Fall 2018 ad-hoc proposals is Friday, March 1, 2018 at 5:00 PM.

The deadline for Summer 2018 and Fall 2018 permanent proposals is Friday, February 23, 2018 at 5:00 PM.

Important notes:

Because of course scheduling considerations, your department chair must be aware of any WI proposals originating in your department.

Please see the guidelines for writing intensive courses and ensure your syllabus meets the requirements before submitting the application.

Continuing Ad-hoc proposals:

Continuing ad-hoc approvals are valid for one semester, for a particular section and a particular instructor who has previously taught the course as a Writing Intensive course.

Instructions for continuing ad-hoc proposals:

1) Submit the application (Google Form) by the deadline. The application can be found at: https://goo.gl/forms/pPnIt7cwzOPHuGq72

2) If there are significant changes to the course's writing component, submit a syllabus to wac@york.cuny.edu. Otherwise, an updated syllabus is not necessary.

New Ad-hoc proposals:

New ad-hoc approvals are valid for one semester, for a particular section and a particular instructor who has not previously taught the course as a Writing Intensive course.

Instructions for new ad-hoc proposals:

1) Submit the application (Google Form) by the deadline. The application can be found at: https://goo.gl/forms/pPnIt7cwzOPHuGq72

2) Submit a syllabus meeting the WI requirements to wac@york.cuny.edu.

Instructors will be notified by e-mail about any suggestions or changes requested by the Writing Intensive Advisory Committee.

Permanent WI proposals:

Permanent Writing Intensive course proposals are governed by the York College Curriculum Committee. These proposals must be submitted to that committee by your department's CCC representative as course changes or new courses (as appropriate) by the deadline above.

Instructions for permanet WI proposals:

1) Submit the application (Google Form) by the deadline. The application can be found at: https://goo.gl/forms/pPnIt7cwzOPHuGq72

2) Your department's Curriculum Committee representative should submit a course change or new course template (as appropriate) with a signed cover sheet and a copy of the syllabus for the intended WI course to the Curriculum Committee through the standard means. A separate e-mail to WAC is not necessary, as the Curriculum Committee will send the syllabi for review.
